Kabeli ‘A’ Hydro Electric Project

Kabeli ‘A’ Hydro Electric Project (HEP) is located in Panchthar and Taplejung district in Eastern Region of Nepal. The project is being developed by Kabeli Energy Limited, a SPV established by the JV partners, led by Butwal Power Company Limited (BPC).

The project was awarded to BPC led JV through an International Competitive Bidding and multi layered evacuation process and negotiations. The JV partners are BPC, SCP Hydro International Inc. (SCPHI), Shangri-La Energy Ltd. (SEL), Khudi Hydropower Ltd. (KHL) and Asia Pacific Power Tech (APP).

This is the only project till date to be funded by World Bank through the Power Development Fund (PDF). The project will have 80:20 debt equity ratio. PDF and consortium of local Banks will finance 40% each and 20% will be equity.

The Project Development Agreement (PDA) has been signed with Government (DoED) on 31 January 2010. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in December 2014. The project is in the advanced stage of Feasibility study and Environment and Social Impact Study (ESIA) and shall be developed under BOOT basis. The project capacity is expected to be 35MW.
