Foundation Stone Laid for BPC Green Building

On an auspicious day of 8 February 2010, Chairman of BPC Mr. Padma Jyoti laid the foundation stone for the Company's New Building in its complex, Buddhanagar, Kathmandu. The proposed BPC new building is going to be the first building in Nepal to be accredited with prestigious LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification by US Green Building Council based at Washington.

The design works of the proposed BPC building is based on latest international green building construction technologies. In the meantime, a great deal of attention has been taken to achieve the climate responsive design. The New Building has also adopted the Vaastu Shastra Principles as far as possible.

Building Information

The building consists of 9 floors with 2 basements area for vehicles parking. Architectural and Engineering (A/E) design has been carried out by a Nepali A/E Consultant. The contract for construction work has been signed with a Nepali Contractor and the construction work is already started. The construction project is envisaged to be completed within 2 years.

Green Building Components

Following green building design components have been incorporated in the Project:

  1. Use of on-site renewable energy such as:
    Solar Energy, Earth Air Tunnel and Wind Turbine.

  2. Use of world class energy efficient practices such as:
    Double Glazed Windows, Heat Insulation, Energy Efficient Appliances, Building Management System (BMS), Orientation and Opening of Building.

  3. Efficient and Effective use of Materials and Resources such as:
    Storage and collection of recyclables, Reuse of building materials, Less use of wood, Reduction in usage of potable water, 100% recycling of waste water, Water efficient landscaping, Rainwater harvesting, Underground water charging, Landscape to reduce heat island effect, Non-use of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), Earthquake resistance building.
